John Joseph (JJ) Sullivan, Nudgee College, 1939-1942

Founder of Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology. Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology was formed in 1956 when Dr John J Sullivan (NC 1939-1942) started a small pathology practice to service local families in and around Brisbane. Dr Nick Nicolaides joined him 18 months later, and since then, it has grown to one of the largest pathology practices in Australia.

They began their collaboration in modest premises on Wickham Terrace in a period when pathology was in its infancy. They initially worked with a single technician out of three rooms, but in time their business would evolve into Australia’s largest specialist pathology practice and an international referral laboratory with 64 pathologists and more than 650 scientists and 2500 staff, handling complex tests sent from as far away as London.
